UAFS students, faculty win awards

Students and faculty from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith won several awards during competitions at the annual conference of the Arkansas Society of Radiologic Technologists.

UAFS students took first and third places in Quiz Bowl competition with 38 teams from across the state. Quiz Bowl winners were Benito Ballin of Booneville, Skylar Vaughn of Waldron and Cambre Brooks of Fayetteville, first place; and Allison Bobb of Fort Smith, Kayla Hollis of Mena and Ariel Adair of Booneville, third place.

Benito Ballin of Booneville also won a third place award for an essay titled “Positron Emission Tomography.” Board presentation winners were Ashley Crockett of Ozark, first place for “Osteoporosis”; Jessica Ryan of Van Buren, second place for “Overuse and Abuse of CT”; and Ariel Adair of Booneville, third place for “Pediatric Radiation Therapy.”

UAFS also took first and second place awards in the advanced education/professional category. Kimberly McCombs of Fayetteville, Bachelor of Science in Imaging Sciences-Management student, won first for an essay and second for a board presentation.

Faculty winners were Angie Elmore of Booneville and Casey Harmon of Van Buren for a board presentation titled “Misconceptions of Computed Radiography.”

UAFS offers two bachelor’s degrees in imaging sciences, one in diagnostic medical sonography and one online program in management, as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree in radiography.
