The Fort Smith Little Theatre presented “Sex Please We’re Sixty” on Tuesday (April 12)  as part of a fundraiser.

Approximately 150 guests came to see the first performance of the play. Funds from the opening performance will benefit Habitat For Humanity. ABF Freight System sponsored the play.

Guests were served hors d’oeuvres and wine before the beginning of the play. A silent auction was also set up to help benefit Habitat For Humanity. The organization hoped to raise $3,000-$4,000.

Forget about the sex-crazed cougars of today, grandmas have gone wild in this little farce. The comedy takes place in a successful bed and breakfast where most of the guests have been nearly all menopausal women who return year after year. Mrs. Stancliffe’s next door neighbor, who is in his golden years, believes the women come to spend time with him in romantic liaisons. As the “chicks” arrive, “Bud The Stud” tries to entertain all three women.

Henry Mitchell who is Mrs. Stancliffe’s would-be suitor is a retired chemist who develops a blue pill called “Venusia” to increase the libido of menopausal women. Bud gets the pills to take advantage of the effects the pills could have. The women discover his plot and, for revenge, mix up Bud’s Viagra pills with the Venusia.

In a twist, the pills have a strange effect on men. What could be funnier than men having symptoms of menopause, complete with hot flashes, weeping and irritability? From witty lines to an unexpected ending, the audience rolled with laughter throughout the play.

Bud Davis’ character is played by Harold McDowell. This is his first play since high school. He just celebrated his 79th birthday, but refers to it as “his eightieth year” counting the first year of life. He thinks that learning lines is “a good test to see if you have Alzheimer’s.” He can now put a check on his Bucket List for his performance in this play.

The cast pulled off a great performance and was given a standing ovation. If you need a rollicking good time filled with laughter, this is a must-see play.
