Steven Head had planned to attend the University of Arkansas and, after graduating, return home to Little Rock to find a job. But he not only met his wife here, he also found that he loves the area.
In November 2012, he started at McClelland Consulting Engineers as a geotechnical engineer. In 2016, he became an associate and was promoted to senior associate in 2017. He manages the geotechnical department, overseeing 15 people and developing the business.
“It’s been great,” Head said, adding he became a manager and started to oversee a department after a partner retired.
Before McClelland Consulting Engineers, he worked for two years for a geotechnical firm and handled on-site quality assurance during the construction of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Other projects he’s worked on include Interstate 49 widening and interchanges, Arkansas Children’s Northwest, UA dorms, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport runway and the Razorback Regional Greenway trail.
Over the next three to five years, he hopes to become a partner at McClelland Consulting Engineers, grow his department and expand opportunities for himself and others.
“I really enjoy seeing other folks succeed,” he said.
While in college, Head was an intern for a firm he would later work for, and this summer, his department had four interns. The highlight of his career has been the advancement and growth in his department, and over the past five years, the division’s personnel and revenue have doubled.
Head serves on the Springdale High School Engineering Academy Advisory Board and was branch officer for the American Society of Civil Engineers. He enjoys deer and duck hunting, fishing and attending Razorback games.
