J.D. Lowery named to board of Southern Economic Development Council
J.D. Lowery, manager of economic development for electricity provider Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp., has been appointed to the board of directors for the Southern Economic Development Council.
Lowery will serve a two-year term on the board and has been a member of the organization for nearly three years. Lowery, who has worked for AECC since 2015, was selected for the board position by his peers in Arkansas. The SEDC is the oldest and largest regional economic development association in North America, according to a news release.
“I congratulate J.D. on being elected to serve on SEDC’s Board of Directors for 2018,” organization Chairman Sam Powers said. “Representing more than 1,000 economic development professionals across the American South is an honor and validates leadership and dedication to the profession. As chairman of the board of directors this year, I am confident that he will assist us in facilitating our 2018 program of work, in addition to helping us chart our course for future programming.”
Lowery also is a board member for the National Rural Economic Developers Association and Arkansas Economic Developers and Chamber Executives.
Nonprofit organization Southern Economic Development Council has 894 members from 17 states and the District of Columbia and includes economic developers across multiple businesses and industries, such as utilities, transportation, financial and educational. The Arkansas Electric Cooperative provides electricity to 17 electricity distribution cooperatives that in turn provide electricity to 500,000 customers in Arkansas and surrounding states.
