Pink on the Links was a day during the Fort Smith Classic dedicated to breast cancer awareness.

The Friday (June 18) event started with a tee off from the first hole by Brenda Frederiksen, women’s club golf champion, followed by a scavenger hunt, a fashion show and brunch in the 19th hole. Approximately 100 guests attended the 2nd annual event sponsored by First National Bank.

It was a day of health promotion and wellness for women with proceeds going to the Ozark affiliate of Susan G. Komen and the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House.  For $35, guests were able to purchase a Pink on the Links t-shirt, lunch, fashion show and a grounds ticket to enjoy a day of golf.

Guests were given maps that led them to the par 3 holes on the golf course where they could find “trinkets.” Once the trinkets were found, they had their map checked off and their name was entered into a drawing for a Coach handbag.

Pro golfers and caddies also became involved in the event sporting pink outfits with some even wearing pink shoes and socks. One golfer had a more personal experience to show his support. Pro golfer David Morland’s mother is a cancer survivor. She has been two years cancer free. When diagnosed, she had to have a partial mastectomy with no further treatment.

To show his support, Morland dyed his Adidas pants pink, painted ribbons on the pant legs, spray painted his shoes, dyed his golf balls and used pink glitter hair spray.  He also got support from his caddy, Ryan Clutter, who was decked out in pink including his sunglasses.

This is Morland’s second year to win the prettiest pro golfer contest.

“It is time for you to step up your game,” Morland told the other golfers.

For their efforts, Morland and Clutter received a camera and a Wii.
