Second Street Live, Fort Smith’s newest performing and visual arts venue, hosted the 12th Annual KUAF 91.3 FM wine tasting event on Thursday (June 17).

About 200 tickets at $45 each were sold for the only KUAF fund raising event in the River Valley, said Cheslea Harper, the station’s underwriting coordinator. The event is also the only other fund raising event in addition to the semiannual on the air phone-in fundraiser. Harper said the station expects to raise $6,000 to $8,000 from ticket sales, silent auction items and sponsor donations.

More than 100 wines were provided by Glazer’s Distributors with hors d’oeuvres from Golden Corral Catering rounding out the palate experience. Warner, Smith & Harris law firm and James & Company CPA’s sponsored the event with cash donations. About 23 items were up for silent auction including a one week stay at house in Hawaii.

The wines available covered a broad range of varieties and vintners. Prices ranged from the single digits up to about $30 a bottle. This, coupled with the modest cost to attend, made the event perfect for both wine aficionados and newbies alike. Seventeen beers from around the world were also available for sampling. The addition of beer to the event began two years ago, Harper said.

Unrelated to the fund raising event but adding to the ambiance were photographs by Steven Jones and paintings by Jason Sacran on display and for sale.
