Fort Smith-based Weldon, Williams and Lick Inc. is one of four winners in the Governor’s Excellence in Global Trade award program.

The winners were announced May 17 at a luncheon held at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Judging criteria was based on factors such as most recent percentage of export sales to total sales, growth of export sales over the past three years, the company’s goals and commitments internationally and the number of jobs saved or created due to the company’s export performance if applicable.

“This award recognizes companies that are taking Arkansas’s economic-development message to a global audience,” Gov. Mike Beebe said in a statement. “The trade successes these Arkansas companies have experienced benefit both our economy and our international reputation.”

The statement from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission provided the following commentary about WWL: “Weldon, Williams and Lick Inc. (WW&L) specializes in the printing of security products such as tickets, passes, credentials and wristbands from its Fort Smith plant to 66 countries. Dedicated to increasing its international and domestic sales, the company integrated its operations and succeeded in growing both. WW&L Inc. actively pursues international sales by maintaining its commitment to customer service and quality products.”

WWL won in the small/medium manufacturer exporter category. The other award winners were:
AmerCable Inc. of El Dorado (large manufacturer exporter category);
Cobb-Vantress Inc. of Siloam Springs (large agribusiness category); and
Keith Smith Company Inc. of Hot Springs (small/medium agribusiness exporter).

Nominations were reviewed by a committee of the Arkansas District Export Council, which is composed of government, business and education leaders from across Arkansas.

In addition to the Governor’s Office, this award is co-sponsored by the Arkansas District Export Council, Arkansas Economic Development Commission, U. S. Commercial Service Export Assistance Center Arkansas, and the Arkansas World Trade Center.
