Fayetteville clinic WelcomeHealth has reached an agreement with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences that will establish WelcomeHealth as a clinical training site for resident physicians in the UAMS Internal Medicine Residency Program at Washington Regional Medical Center.

The agreement marks the first time resident physicians will provide care at WelcomeHealth.

This is an elective rotation for residents to gain experience in community health and to treat patients in a free clinic setting. The agreement allows second- and third-year residents to see patients at the clinic. The first three residents to complete rotations at WelcomeHealth are Gunner Gilbert, M.D.; Berneice Jimenez-King, D.O.; and Janae Newton, D.O. Each physician will complete a six-month rotation starting in February.

“WelcomeHealth is honored to serve as a training site for resident physicians,” said Cambre Horne Brooks, executive director of WelcomeHealth. “This partnership strengthens our ability to provide compassionate, high-quality care to our community while also helping to train the next generation of physicians committed to serving vulnerable populations.”

Founded in 1986, WelcomeHealth is a free and charitable clinic providing medical care, dental services, and supportive resources to uninsured, underinsured, and income-eligible insured people, regardless of their ability to pay.
