U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Jonesboro, will have an opponent in the general election this fall. Democratic candidate Dr. Terri Yarbrough Green officially launched her campaign in Northeast Arkansas. The Paragould native told Talk Business & Politics she recently retired as a medical pathologist.
She said Congress is not performing its duty as a check and balance on President Donald Trump and that Crawford is part of that problem.
“Right now, too many politicians in Washington are no longer serving the people,” she said. “Meanwhile, families right here in Arkansas are stretched thin. … Arkansans aren’t asking for special treatment. They’re asking for fairness and a real chance to achieve life, liberty and happiness.”
A political newcomer, Green said this is the first time she’s ever sought a political office. If elected, she said one issue she will focus on is the farm crisis that has gripped the country.
Commodity prices have been in the doldrums, while input costs on farms such as fuel and fertilizer have skyrocketed, being further impacted by Trump’s war with Iran that has shutdown the Strait of Hormuz, which has led to oil pushing more than $100 per barrel during the last month.

“When farmers thrive, towns thrive,” Green said. “When small businesses grow, jobs grow. When working families have breathing room, hope grows. And that kind of hope is practical. It’s built on real policy, not empty promises … I believe Arkansas families deserve a government as honest and hardworking as they are.”
Even though she hasn’t sought office before, Green said she follows politics closely. She’s been active with the Greene County Democratic Party and has worked to get more people registered to vote. When she found out nobody was going to challenge Crawford, she decided to run.
“Democracy is under severe threat,” she said.
