Sales tax revenue in four NWA cities down more than 2% in January report

Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale had combined revenue in their January reports of $9.507 million, down 2.27% from the year-ago period. It’s the slowest start in seven years for the cities. Rogers was the only city among the four to post a revenue gain.

Revenue reported in January reflects retail sales and services rendered in November.

Rogers reported sales tax revenue of $2.6 million, up 0.91% from a year ago. The January data was up against a strong comparison from the year-ago period when Rogers reported gains of 10.25%. Rogers reported total rebates in 2025 at $2.027 million, 7.24% higher than in 2024.

The city has estimated sales tax growth of 2.28% in 2026. The estimate follows the city’s 2.3% growth reported in 2025, well below its original target of 6%.

Bentonville tax revenue was $2.048 million in the January report, down 6.68% compared with the January 2025 report. Rebates tied to the new Walmart corporate campus and other large projects totaled $11.337 million, up 51% from 2024.

Springdale had sales tax revenue of $2.049 million in the January report, down 2.28% from a year ago. The city estimates 2026 tax revenue will grow 4%, just below the 5.14% growth in 2025.

Fayetteville sales tax revenue totaled $2.809 million, down 1.32% from the year-ago period. The city also estimates 4% tax revenue growth in 2026, below the 4.96% gain in 2025.
