Conway-based Hendrix College named Alex Herrera as its new executive director of development beginning Oct. 10. After a national search, Herrera was selected to oversee the major gifts program in partnership with the college’s vice president of advancement.

Herrera is a fundraising and corporate engagement executive with more than two decades of experience spanning higher education, philanthropy, financial services, and human resources.

He holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Barry University as well as a bachelor’s degree in human resources development and a graduate certificate in leading for equity, diversity, and inclusion, both from the University of Michigan.

“Alex has an extraordinary track record of mentoring and leading ambitious, high-achieving professionals and individuals who consistently deliver results from day one,” said Quincy Davidson, Hendrix’s vice president of advancement. “His leadership will be transformative for our major gifts, philanthropy, and engagement program at Hendrix.”

Herrera has led multimillion-dollar fundraising campaigns throughout his career, secured transformative major gifts, and built strategic partnerships with Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and community organizations. His work has expanded scholarship access for underserved students, launched innovative apprenticeship and career development programs, and elevated institutional visibility through board-level engagement and naming initiatives.

“Hendrix has a remarkable legacy of excellence, impact, and community,” Herrera said. “I’m honored to join a college where the people, alumni, and history speak to a deep commitment to purpose and progress. The opportunity to help advance that mission — alongside such passionate partners — is both humbling and energizing.”

A Gulf War veteran and recipient of the Southwest Asia Medal, Herrera brings discipline, strategic vision, and a relationship-driven approach to every endeavor, according to Hendrix. He was nominated for the Barry University Impact Award in 2023 and has served on regional boards and advisory councils, including the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
