A popular Fayetteville overlook recently received a roughly $160,000 makeover, which was supported by multiple grants, residents and organizations including the Walton Family Foundation, according to a news release.

The Mount Sequoyah Overlook reopened May 22 after being closed for renovations, including the installation of an observation deck, new benches, landscaping and signs. The overlook is open to the public and will be available for rental as an event venue of the Mount Sequoyah Center.

“The overlook has long been a hidden gem in Fayetteville,” said Emily Gentry, executive director of Mount Sequoyah Center. “With these improvements, we are making it a more intentional gathering space where people can take in the view, connect with others and respectfully enjoy the beauty of our community.”

The project was supported by a Community Placemaking Grant from the Walton Family Foundation, Project for Public Spaces, Cox Mobile, The Sprague Foundation and the Fayetteville Restoration Endowment.

The general contractor was Fayetteville-based Natural State Treehouses. The architect was Chris Baribeau with Fayetteville-based Modus Studio. Project assistance was provided by the Project for Public Spaces team. Carl Kernodle with Two Trout consulted on the project and design. DK Design handled the landscape design and planning.
