A cultural event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31 at Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. The event will include a guest speaker, storytelling, music and dancing.

Attendees can learn about the cultures of two prominent indigenous communities: the Sac River and White River bands, Cherokee Nation of Indians in Arkansas and Missouri, and the Marshallese who relocated to Springdale after their islands were polluted by nuclear fallout.

Chief Stephanie Jeffords said the tribe hosts gatherings twice annually on its grounds in Bolivar, Mo., and the Springdale event will allow many of its citizens who live in the area but can’t make those gatherings to attend this event. About 2,000 tribal citizens live in the area.

Author Rick Schoenfield will be the guest speaker, presenting “The Soldiers Fell Like Autumn Leaves.” The event at 118 W. Johnson Ave. will also include children’s activities and music by Old Time Pickers.
