Gearhead Outfitters has expanded its store holdings into Colorado. The company recently announced that it bought Summit Canyon Mountaineering. Summit has two stores, one in Grand Junction and another in Glenwood Springs.

Terms of the deal were not released.

Gearhead, based in Jonesboro, now owns and operates more than 20 stores in seven states, including three locations in Northwest Arkansas.

“This marks a significant milestone for our industry as a whole. (Gearhead Outfitters) was established 27 years ago following my time spent in Colorado, where I was inspired to bring the mountain lifestyle back to my hometown in Arkansas,” Gearhead owner Ted Herget said. “Now, expanding our brand into two wonderful communities in Colorado feels somewhat serendipitous. Our business ethos revolves around attitude and gratitude, and entering the Colorado market is truly exhilarating for us.”

Ashlyn Cornell, Gearhead director of operations, said the move will help to extend the company’s presence in the mountain west were there is a large market for outdoor activities and products.

“It’s thrilling for our company to venture out west, extending our accessibility to customers. We have many guests across all our existing locations who enjoy vacationing out west, particularly in Colorado. Thus, it’s incredibly exciting for our customers to encounter a familiar presence when they’re in that region,” she said.

Summit has been in operation since 1978, according to The Daily Sentinel. It opened its Grand Junction location in 1994.
