University of Arkansas enrollment exceeds 32,000 for first time

University of Arkansas enrollment rose by 3.9% to 32,140 students this fall. This is the first time UA enrollment has surpassed 32,000 students, according to a Thursday (Sept. 7) news release.
Over the past five years, enrollment has increased by 15.7% from 27,778 in 2018. Enrollment fell slightly in 2019 to 27,559. The numbers include undergraduates, graduates and law students.
The UA has set enrollment records for three consecutive years. The number of enrolled students increased by 8.3% to 30,936 in fall 2022 from more than 29,000 in 2021.
“This has been another great year for the University of Arkansas as a destination university,” said Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admission. “We brought in the best-prepared freshman class with the largest number of Arkansans in our history. The class was a little smaller than last year’s by design, but by any other measure, it’s a big class prepared to succeed.”
The freshman class size decreased by 10.6% to 6,344 students this fall from a record of 7,099 last fall. Still, the freshman class this fall is the UA’s second largest.
The number of Arkansans in the freshman class rose by 5.3% from last fall. The class includes a record number of Arkansas students. Over the past five years, the number of Arkansans in the incoming class has increased by 19.5%.
The UA has continued to emphasize providing higher education access to Arkansans, the release shows. This fall, more Arkansans are enrolled at the UA than at any other time, surpassing the record set last fall.
According to the release, the UA enrollment numbers comprise the 11th-day census “snapshot” that’s required by the Division of Higher Education. The numbers are expected to change slightly as corrections are made. The official numbers will be available in October.
