Car-Mart lands at No. 6 on used vehicle retailer list

Rogers-based America’s Car-Mart Inc. ranked No. 6 on a list recently released by Automotive News. Richmond, Va.-based CarMax topped the inaugural list that ranks U.S. used vehicle retailers based on vehicle sales.
Automotive News revamped its top 100 rankings this year into a list that exclusively features franchised dealership groups. Rounding out the top five were Carvana, DriveTime Automotive, CarShop and EchoPark Automotive.
In fiscal 2023, which ended April 30, Car-Mart’s vehicle sales rose by 4.9% to 63,584 from 60,595. Automotive News listed Car-Mart’s 2022 vehicle sales at 63,000 and noted that they were estimated.
Following are the top five used dealers listed with 2022 vehicle sales:
- CarMax, 807,823
- Carvana, 412,296
- DriveTime Automotive, 102,649
- CarShop, 71,242
- EchoPark Automotive, 64,107
Car-Mart operates 156 dealerships in 12 states. Automotive News listed Car-Mart with 157 dealerships, but the company’s store in Siloam Springs recently consolidated with the Discount Auto store in the same city. In fiscal 2023, the buy here, pay here used car dealer’s earnings declined by 78.5% to $20.39 million from $94.97 million in the same period last year. Revenue rose by 17.6% to $1.4 billion from $1.19 billion.
