Tyson Foods may close a poultry plant in Wales
Tyson Foods may discontinue operations or sell its chicken plant in Wrexham, Wales. The facility dates back to 1962 and has been a major employer in the region, according to the Unite union associated with 71 workers in the facility.
The plant was acquired by Springdale-based Tyson Foods in the BRF deal the company completed last year.
“Putting this proposal forward was a very difficult decision. It was based on a combination of factors including our ability to generate profitable growth and our need to adapt to shifting customer needs. We are currently consulting with our team members in Wrexham about the proposal to discontinue operations on 30 September 2020,” said Hli Yang, international communications spokesman for Tyson Foods.
Tyson Foods did not say what will happen with production if the plant closes, or if any of the work will shift to other facilities.
