Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin has been elected president of the Arkansas Municipal League. Perrin took the office from exiting president Joe Smith, mayor of North Little Rock.
Perrin’s platform for the one-year appointment is public-private partnerships, which Jonesboro has used effectively and garnered statewide attention.
“Everyone in this room knows what so many of our residents do not — just how much it costs to run a city on a day-to-day basis,” Perrin said. “No one can do it on sales tax alone.”
He cited Jonesboro’s Miracle League Park, the pedestrian-bicycle trail at Craighead Forest Park and coming Veterans Village as examples of projects that have required little or no tax dollars.
“The cherry on top is that it’s a win-win for your government and your city,” Perrin said. “People who love your city and have the ability want to contribute in any way they can.”
The Arkansas Municipal League represents more than 500 cities and towns across the state.
