Jim von Gremp Resigns From UA Board of Trustees
Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Tuesday named Jim von Gremp of Rogers to the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) effective March 1.
Von Gremp will replace Horace Hardwick of Bentonville, who resigned in December.
Von Gremp has served as a member of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees for 11 years. He has submitted his letter of resignation from that position effective Feb. 28.
The AHECB oversees the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) and is responsible for promoting a coordinated system of higher education in the state and assuring the orderly and effective development of each publicly supported institution of higher education in the state.
“I’m honored and grateful to Gov. Hutchinson for this appointment,” von Gremp said in a statement issued by the governor’s office. “These are very important times for Arkansas higher education as we work to implement the governor’s new master plan that calls for increasing college attainment while promoting efficiency in our operations and program delivery.
“These are issues that we’ve been tackling at the UA System and I look forward to utilizing the knowledge and experience I’ve gained through my service on the UA Board in a more statewide focus on the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board.”
Von Gremp is a real estate investor, communications consultant and former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. executive. He has served as chairman of the Arkansas Public Service Commission and executive director of governmental relations for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
A former state representative, von Gremp also served on former governor Mike Huckabee’s first senior management team as the executive director of governmental operations when Huckabee took office as governor in July 1996.
Von Gremp’s term on the UA Board was to expire in 2025.
