The Health Insurance Marketplace has enrolled or re-enrolled 8.7 million consumers nationally and 66,635 Arkansans since Nov. 1, according to numbers released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As of Jan. 9, the numbers include 32,178 in the Little Rock-Pine Bluff market; 21,599 consumers in the Fort Smith-Northwest Arkansas market; 19,782 consumers in the Monroe-El Dorado market, and 5,419 consumers in the Jonesboro market. Eighty-six percent of Arkansans enrolled in the first month received financial assistance.

Consumers have until Jan. 15 to enroll in coverage that starts Feb. 1. Consumers who enroll afterwards will be covered effective March 1. Open enrollment ends Jan. 31. It began Nov. 1.

Coverage is accessed in Arkansas through the federal government’s HealthCare.gov platform, created as a result of the Affordable Care Act, the law that created Obamacare.
