Sue Owens, Economics Arkansas executive director, was elected to serve as the 2016 president of the National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE).

During the October 2015 national annual conference hosted in St. Petersburg, Fla., by the Council for Economic Education (CEE) and the National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE), Owens received the president’s gavel after serving as president-elect in 2015. Owens also served three years on the NAEE executive committee prior to this election.

As one of the most tenured state council directors in the nation, Owens will be leading NAEE, a national association with the mission to advance the professional growth of economic educators, as they expand K-12 economic and financial literacy.

The association provides opportunities to its members through a unique national network that includes the Council for Economic Education, affiliates’ state councils and university centers, the Federal Reserve Banks, and other economics and financial literacy stakeholders.

The purposes of the association are as follows:

· To advocate for, and improve the economic and financial education of K-12 teachers
· To provide a forum for communication – sharing best practices and research in the field
· To advance objective, non-partisan and academically strong economic education programs
· To advocate for economics and personal finance education on a national and international level
· To promote leadership, sound management and effective fundraising for economic education programs
