Newton, Beaver named to Arkansas Good Roads Foundation exec committee

The board of the Arkansas Good Roads Foundation have elected Shannon Newton and Harold Beaver to its executive committee.

Newton is president of the Arkansas Trucking Association (ATA), and has been with the ATA since 2003, and served as vice president from 2008 until 2014, when she was appointed president. Since joining ATA, Newton worked in a number of leadership roles, including managing strategic initiatives in the areas of planning, finance, member services, governance, regulatory and legislative affairs and advocacy.

Newton earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and computer information services from the University of Central Arkansas.

Beaver is a registered professional engineer and is serving as president of the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineering. His history with surface transportation began in 1965 when he served the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) as a summer engineering intern in his hometown of Searcy. After receiving his engineering degree in 1969 from the University of Arkansas, Beaver began full time with the AHTD.

He has served as resident engineer in Batesville, staff construction engineer at the AHTD Central Office in Little Rock, and assistant district engineer in Little Rock. In 1990, Beaver was promoted to district engineer in Fort Smith. He retired from the AHTD in 2004.

The Arkansas Good Roads Foundation works to secure adequate funding and financing for the planning, development, construction, and maintenance of a safe and efficient Arkansas highway system.
