Kansas City Royals owner David Glass Celebrates World Series Victory

Kansas City Royals owner David Glass, the CEO of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. from 1988 to 2000, has sifted through the rubble of many disappointing baseball seasons in the last 15 years.

The only thing to sort through this year, however, are sentiments of congratulations, and so we will offer ours as well to Glass and the Royals organization for winning the World Series.

If you’re a lifelong Royals fan, it must’ve brought a tear to your eye to watch Glass enthusiastically lead a “Let’s Go Royals” chant at the team’s downtown victory parade.

Glass, who turned 80 in September, bought the Royals in 2000 for $96 million — a terrific deal when considering that Forbes magazine pegged the team’s value earlier this year at $700 million. That value ranks No. 28 out of 30 teams, but it’s still quite a return on investment.

Glass, by the way, still maintains a residence in Bentonville.
