Max Farrell’s WorkHound recently announced that the startup was the winner of a high-stakes business competition in Dallas.

WorkHound was the big winner at the Great American Trucking Show’s “Truck Tank,” a Shark Tank-styled competition.

The WorkHound app collects data from truck drivers so that companies can gain more insight from feedback. Farrell has also effectively pitched the product as a driver recruitment and retention tool.

Initially, WorkHound was selected as one of ten finalists via an online Pitch for the trade show which included 50,000 trucking professionals.

Each team pitched for a total of six minutes to a panel of industry professionals including R.J. Grimshaw, CEO of Unifi Equipment Finance; Bethany Williams, writer, speaker and entrepreneur advisor; Matt Manero, founder and CEO of CFF; and Don Daseke, chairman, president and CEO of Daseke.

WorkHound beat out two other finalists to win the $5,000 award.

“The trucking industry has an annual turnover rate of 97 percent, and a big reason for that is a disconnect between the drivers and the companies,” Farrell said. “Winning this competition is huge validation that we’re building something extremely valuable for the trucking industry.”

The WorkHound team is finishing up a 90-day business accelerator program and is preparing for the Straight Shot demo day in Omaha, Nebraska this coming Thursday, Sept. 10.
