UAMS has named Tim Hill its vice chancellor for Regional Programs.

According to a news release, Hill, who will start his new job Aug. 1, will head what used to be called the Area Health Education Centers, the network of eight centers around the state providing training for medical residents, clinical care and health education services.

The centers were started in 1973 and are located in Batesville, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Helena, Jonesboro, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and Texarkana.

Hill has served in the position as an interim vice chancellor since his predecessor, Mark Mengel, M.D., retired in May.

Hill has more than 30 years of experience in health care finance and operational management experience. He has been director of the UAMS Center for Healthcare Enhancement and Development since October 2013 after directing the UAMS Center for Rural Health.

He was also president and CEO of the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison from 1998 to 2009. He was named Administrator of the Year by the Arkansas Hospital Association in 1996 as head of Southwest Hospital in Little Rock.
