Former Wal-Mart executive Duncan Mac Naughton will join Crossmark’s board of directors, according to an internal announcement circulated at the retail marketing and merchandising firm that works closely with Wal-Mart and other retailers.

Crossmark CEO Steve Schuckenbrock noted in a company bulletin that Mac Naughton’s retail experience and leadership will be a great asset to the board of directors.

“His insight and expertise will be highly valued as we continue to drive innovation and build unique capabilities centered around consumer purchase behavior, enabling us to deliver smarter solutions for our clients and customers to grow their businesses faster,” Schuckenbrock said. “I look forward to having Duncan join our collaborative team as we continue on our path toward growth.”

Crossmark has an office in Rogers and recently opened a collaboration center adjacent to Wal-Mart’s home office in Bentonville.

Mac Naughton exited his role as chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S. in November on the heels of Bill Simon’s departure as CEO of Walmart U.S. Simon and Mac Naughton were passed over for promotions as the Wal-Mart board and Walton Family promoted Doug McMillon to Wal-Mart Stores CEO, taking the reins from Mike Duke.

McMillon brought in Greg Foran to head up U.S. stores upon Simon’s exit, a surprising move according to analysts who had thought Mac Naughton would be promoted given his experience in U.S. retail having held executive roles at Supervalu, Albertsons, HEB Grocery and Kraft Foods.

“I have always respected the Crossmark organization. The people at all levels have consistently demonstrated leadership, collaboration and excellence in driving our industry forward,” Mac Naughton said in the release. “I’m excited to work with the team in helping the company increase shareholder value by driving continued growth for its clients and customers.
