Gov. Asa Hutchinson named Mark Myers as the new Director of the Arkansas Department of Information Systems.

The agency is the information technology provider for the state of Arkansas, providing telephony, data networking and technical consulting to state agencies and offices.

“Technology is an important part of our daily lives, and, in the same way, the Department of Information Systems is a critical aspect of state government. Mark’s technology background in the military, coupled with his breadth of experience in this field, makes him the ideal choice as the new Director of DIS. Mark understands the importance this position has on the state and its people, and I know he will represent my administration well.”

“I’m proud to join Governor Hutchinson’s cabinet as Director of the Department of Information Systems. Technology changes daily, if not hourly, and the trust the Governor has put in me to lead one of the most dynamic agencies in government is both inspiring and humbling.”

Myers is currently the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Secretary of State, a position he has held since 2011.

Myers serves as a Major in the United States Army Reserves with two deployments to Iraq and one deployment to Afghanistan. He has received two Bronze Stars, three Army Commendation Medals, and several other military awards.

Myers graduated as an honor graduate, fourth in his class of 78, from the U.S. Army Signal School in May of 2003, after having been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserve.

He previously worked in the technology industry for Loislaw.com.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and a Post-graduate Certificate in Security, Stability, Development in Complex Operations from the Naval Post-Graduate School.
