Local Family Fun Walk raises funds for breast health education, screening and treatment

October 4th, 2014 Komen Ozark will host the 8th annual Paint the Park Pink Family Fun Walk on the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Campus.  The day’s events will begin with the traditional Survivor Breakfast at 8:15 A.M. in the Reynolds Room in the Smith Pendergraft Building followed by Survivor parade to the Bell Tower stage. A brief program will follow and the one-mile walk around the campus will start at 10 A.M. For the enjoyment of younger supporters, an expanded Kids Zone is part of the festivities again this year.  Komen Ozark anticipates 200 registered participants to support the Komen River Valley mission.
Registration for adults is $20. Registration for youth is $10 and $15 with a student ID. All participants and survivors can register at www.komenozark.org or registration forms may be picked up at Komen Ozark’s Fort Smith office, located at 1508 Rogers Ave.
Registered survivors are encouraged to bring a registered co-survivor to the breakfast. The breakfast will feature a light buffet, entertainment and door prizes.  Live entertainment will once again be provided by the Heaven's to Betsy.

Since it was established in Fort Smith in 2007, Paint the Park Pink has raised nearly $750,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The money raised is used to fund grants for mammograms, gas cards, educational programs and research to find the cure for breast cancer.
The Ozark Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure executes a year-long campaign to raise funds to provide screening, education and treatment in Northwest and the River Valley Arkansas', eight-county service area.  These counties include Benton, Boone, Carroll, Crawford, Madison, Newton, and Sebastian and Washington and two counties in Missouri Stone and Taney. Up to 75% of the funds raised in the campaign year remains in this 10-county service area while 25% funds Komen National research and grant programs. The mission of Komen for the Cure is to end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
