Gearhead Growth Plan
Jonesboro-based Gearhead Outfitters, a retail store specializing in outdoor lifestyle clothing and footwear, is planning to open a store at 608 W. Dickson St. in downtown Fayetteville.
Ted Herget, owner of the company, closed on the purchase of the single-story, 3,100-SF building Sept. 18. He bought the property, currently being leased to Black Sheep Salon, from Mr. Tux Holdings LLC for $795,000.
Herget is considering a major redesign to the building that would potentially include the addition of a second and third floor.
Gearhead Outfitters will be the anchor tenant, with an additional 1,400 SF for lease on the first floor.
Fayetteville architect Tim W. Cooper is handling the design work.
“We’re running through a lot of different scenarios and floor plans right now, and it’s amazing how many people are already wanting to lease space,” said Herget, who founded Gearhead Outfitters in 1997. There are now locations in Jonesboro (four), Little Rock (two) and Shreveport, Louisiana. Herget also opened a store in the Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers in April. “We’re pumped about it.”
An opening date in Fayetteville could be anywhere from late spring to late summer next year.
Herget, 40, said Centennial Bank of Conway is financing the project, and Clinton Bennett and David Erstine with CBRE|Northwest Arkansas of Fayetteville brokered the building acquisition.
Herget, we’re also told, is going to open a Gearhead Outfitters in the new Midtown Shopping Center under construction in downtown Bentonville.
