Mercy Presents New Mobile Health Clinic
Mercy Health System has gone mobile in Northwest Arkansas. It has purchased a $650,000 motor coach, equipped to perform point-of-care testing and other medical services, in an effort to bring convenient, affordable health care to underserved and rural communities, according to a press release from Mercy.
The health care provider on Tuesday introduced the new clinic to a group of sponsors, chamber of commerce members and Mercy staff during a tour and ribbon-cutting ceremony in Rogers.
Patients have been seen at the clinic since June.
Equipped for blood draws, glucose screenings, mammograms and cardiovascular screenings, the mobile clinic will travel hundreds of miles and will be available for health services and health education services for corporations, schools and nonprofit organizations, according to the press release.
The vehicle is 40 feet long and eight feet wide. Two slides allow the unit to expand three feet in width on either side.
General Mills led the campaign for the mobile unit with a $75,000 donation, and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Tyson Foods Inc. each donated $50,000 for the project, according to the press release.
Mercy also raised $76,000 for the project during the company’s annual charity ball.
The launching of the mobile clinic is part of a $1 million effort to bring access to health care for underserved and rural communities, according to the press release.
