Cook: James Lee Witt’s Campaign Gets Big Boost
Fourth District Congressional candidate James Lee Witt’s campaign got a major boost last Friday when it was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign’s “Red to Blue” program.
The “Red to Blue” program is for those the DCCC considers to be top-tier candidates in open districts and districts held by Republicans. Candidates in this program usually receive significant resources either through staffing, direct contributions or advertising done on their behalf.
Earlier this year, Second Congressional District candidate Pat Hays was placed in this program, while Witt was placed in the second-tier, but still important, “Emerging Races” program.
Fundraising, poll numbers and district demographics are just some of the items the DCCC reviews closely before placing a candidate in the “Red to Blue” program. Witt’s fundraising seems to be on track, having raised $506,000 as of March 30, the last time he was required to file a report with the FEC.
Witt’s Republican opponent is State Representative Bruce Westerman.
Witt’s placement in the DCCC’s top-tier program shows his campaign is getting well-deserved attention and will likely get significant help from various national sources in the coming months.
