Cook: Democrats Hammer Cotton On Disaster Aid Denial
Last week, it was Tom Cotton’s vote against the Violence Against Women Act that came back to haunt him. This week, it’s Cotton’s votes against disaster relief that are coming back to haunt him.
Today, the Democratic Party of Arkansas released a new television ad titled “Five.” It’s so titled since Cotton voted against disaster aid five times in Congress. This is first ad the DPA has run against Tom Cotton, with the funding for it likely coming from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee based on my experience.
You can view the ad below.
The tornadoes that hit Faulkner County in April make Cotton’s vote even more relevant and harmful to him politically. The DPA ad ties the Faulkner County tragedy and Tom Cotton’s disaster aid “no” votes together explicitly.
I wrote a story on Cotton’s first vote against disaster aid way back in January 2013 and how it showed, in my opinion, that at Cotton’s core he is a callous technocrat. When folks were in the midst of a natural disaster, Cotton wanted the Congress to take out the government ledger and balance the books before giving aid to those in need.
As with his previous vote against the Violence Against Women Act, Tom Cotton was the only Arkansas Congressman to vote against disaster relief.
Based on his voting record, Tom Cotton is not only out of touch with Arkansas, he’s so extreme and far-right that he’s out of touch with his fellow Republicans.
