Best Sign Group Marks 20th Year in Business
In 1994, 23-year-old Laura Tucker opened a small banner and sign company in Rogers, armed only with self-taught typesetting skills and a passion for customer service.
Although at first she wasn’t sure the rent would get paid each month, Tucker ultimately built Best Sign Group up to what it is now: an 11-employee company that has amassed about $20 million in sales and almost 100,000 orders throughout its 20 years in business.
Through the years, Best Sign has expanded its offerings to include lighted signs, digital displays, rebranding services, vehicle decals and promotional products.
And Tucker and her team have reached this point with no outside sales.
To what does she give credit for her success? There are a few things.
First, Tucker knows she cornered the market. When Best Sign opened, it was the only of its kind. “There were no Fast Signs or anything like that around here,” she said.
However, the main reason for her success, she says, is the attention to detail and customer service the company provides, whether it’s answering phones quickly, cleaning up and making sure it looks beautiful when the workers leave or following up with customers afterward.
A big part of it is “doing what’s right,” and that includes “only promising what you can deliver and treating employees the way you want to be treated,” Tucker said.
This way of doing business has earned Tucker loyal employees (most of whom have worked at Best Sign for 10 years or more) and “a lot of really loyal customers.”
Although Best Sign has worked with Northwest Arkansas Medical Center hospitals and tenants at Pinnacle Hills Promenade, Tucker is proud to still do business with her first-ever customer, John Rhea of Vintage Antiques in downtown Rogers.
Best Sign marked the 20th anniversary June 20 with a “Backyard Bash,” where it recognized and donated $2,000 to three causes that are dear to Tucker’s heart: Saving Grace, Kendrick Fincher Hydration for Life and the Teen Action & Support Center.
