Hobbs State Park offers Live Bat Encounters to Highlight the Beauty and Benefits of these often Misunderstood Creatures
Hobbs State Park –Conservation Area celebrates all life, including those most misunderstood! Enjoy the beauty and benefits of bats with a once in a lifetime – live bat encounter with Rob Mies, Executive Director of the Organization for Bat Conservation. Mies has appeared on many television shows with his furry, winged friends including The Tonight Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Fox & Friends, and Martha Stewart.
Mies will speak about the benefits of bats, the need for conservation, and what can be done to help these unique mammals. He will lead you into the mysterious world of bats as he explores their lives, habitats, and nocturnal strategies. You will encounter a live Big Brown bat from North America and hear its high-pitched echolocation through a “bat detector.” You will also have a chance to meet fruit bats from Africa and Asia, and come face-to-face with the largest bat in the world – the Flying Fox Bat of Malaysia, which has a 6-foot wingspan!
This family-fun, memory-making program is free and open to the public. Be amazed by the beauty and diversity of bats!
Where: Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area visitor center located on U.S. Hwy 12 just east of the Hwy 12/War Eagle Road intersection.
