In celebration of Fort Smith Western Heritage Month, on Saturday, May 10, join Mary O’Toole Parker for Luncheon with the Fortnightly Ladies.

Mrs. Parker, portrayed by Sue Robison, will present a program relating little known facts about the woman behind the famous Federal Judge for the Western District of Arkansas. For $20 per person, guests will enjoy a delectable 1888 luncheon served by the Fortnightly Ladies.

The Fortnightly Club was founded in 1888 as a women’s literary and social organization with Mrs. Isaac C. Parker serving as the first president. The members were interested in establishing a public library in the city and soon began raising funds by selling Fortnightly Club Library Association shares for $5. Fort Smith’s first public library opened in 1889 at Belle Grove School with 1100 books.

Please call the Fort Smith Museum of History for reservations:  479-783-7841.
