Nabholz Introduces Eco-friendly Trailer

Nabholz Construction Services recently unveiled a new, environmentally friendly jobsite trailer.

The mobile unit will be used in place of the typical office trailer used at construction job sites.

Midwest operations president Greg Fogle said the unit is a first for the company, but there are plans to continue in this direction of “going green” with its jobsite trailers.

The trailer was built during the course of a year and was constructed completely in-house, save for the solar panels that power it.

John Strack, Nabholz superintendent, led the project. He says he believes the eco-friendly construction site trailer is the first of its kind in Arkansas, although there are units like it in other states.

Perhaps the most innovative concept used in building the trailer is the utilization of denim insulation, made from recycled blue jeans and a fire and smoke resistant adhesive.

Other recycled materials, including recycled wood, were used in building the trailer. The exterior wall panels are made of 50 to 65 percent post-consumer recycled material.

Also, Nabholz used various construction materials and methods to increase the trailer’s thermal resistance. For example, a white membrane roof reflects sunlight away from the mobile office.

The unit also features all LED lighting and will run on eight solar panels, which are capable of powering the entire trailer and feeding power back to the electric company when production exceeds consumption.

The unit boasts a ductless air conditioning unit with a seasonal energy efficiency ratio of 12, which will promote quality indoor air, said Marty Schmidt, general superintendent.

A gutter rain capture system was installed on the trailer and can be used to water planters that are attached to either side of the trailer.
