NWACC faculty, staff honored at state conference

Four individuals from NorthWest Arkansas Community College were honored during the a recent conference of the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges.
 
The event, held in Hot Springs, represented the 25th annual conference for the organization.
 
Honorees:
•  Denise Nemec — Outstanding Faculty
Nemec has taught for the English Department at NWACC for 15 years. She has served as faculty adviser for the Eagle View, the college’s award-winning student newspaper.

• Miranda Smith — Outstanding Staff
Smith has served as the executive assistant to the president and board of trustees for the past five years. Some recent projects have included assisting with the college’s presidential selection process and trustee elections.

• Rebecca Hudson — Outstanding Alumni
Hudson was selected for this recognition because of her perseverance to obtain her degree after being laid off from the aviation industry, as well as her commitment to NorthWest Arkansas Community College. After completing her degree at NWACC, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from John Brown University and a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas. Hudson is director of student life at NWACC.

• Aaron Jones — Academic All-Star
Jones is a math and science standout who was awarded a summer internship through the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science program to work in a national research lab in Illinois. As a honor student Jones has taken a leadership role in making a documentary about the Quapaw tribe. His long-term goal is to obtain a doctorate in accelerator physics.
