Hotel Owners Show Greater Investment in Green Building
According to a new report, the idea of ‘green’ is growing on hotels.
A recent report by McGraw Hill Construction in partnership with Waste Management Inc. said the U.S. hotel industry continues to get greener, with owners and investors allocating more time and resources toward eco-conscious business activities.
The study, called “Green Retail and Hospitality SmartMarket Report: Capitalizing on the Growth in Green Building Investments,” is based on a study of 30 hotel owners conducted in 2013 by MHC.
Hotel owners “highly involved in green” rose from 28 percent in 2011 to a current mark of 48 percent, according to the report.
Growth is expected to rise to 62 percent in 2015.
Also, 38 percent of all hotel starts by value were green in 2012. Three-quarters of hotel owners also expect to have green operations and maintenance activities by 2015.
