Robocall Ties Ross To Rapert On Abortion Issue

We still have over a year to go before the primaries in Arkansas, but it appears it is already getting nasty.

A robocall went out this past week that seeks to tie former Democratic Congressman Mike Ross to Republican Sen. Jason Rapert in his position on abortion.  The call was recorded by Arkansan Luther Lowe and posted to his sound cloud account.  The call was paid for by a group calling itself “Protecting Our Jobs.”  The script…

Hello, this is Ashley from Protecting Our Jobs to alert you that Arkansas Republican State Senator Jason Rapert authored and passed a law that takes a woman’s right to choose away from her after only 12 weeks of pregnancy, and that Mike Ross voted last year in Congress to defund Planned Parenthood.  Now Ross is thinking about running for Governor.  Mike Ross and Jason Rapert are making it more difficult to attract new business to our state because they don’t respect women’s rights.  Please write your local newspaper editor to tell Mike Ross and Jason Rapert to stop their war on women.

There is no way to know who is behind the message, but it seems clear whoever is behind it wants to hurt him in the Democratic primary. Tying Ross to Rapert – one of the most outspoken conservatives in Arkansas – damages Ross with the pro-choice Democratic base. Rapert received a slew of criticism this session from the left as he spearheaded a bill into law that bans abortions as early as 12 weeks.

Interestingly, Bill Halter spokesman Bud Jackson and Lowe had a short Twitter exchange after Lowe suggested Halter’s “goons” were behind the “slimy robocall.” Jackson responded, “Luther Lowe at Yelp I see is taking to Twitter to lie about people. way to go, Luther. stay classy.”  Lowe posted the audio and transcript following this charge as lying from Jackson and asked for an apology.
