The University of Arkansas College of Engineering announced John English as its new dean via a Monday news release.

English will begin his new role July 1. He comes to the UA from Kansas State University, where he holds the same position.

English, who earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in operations research at the UA, said in the news release he is “ready to jump in with both feet at the University of Arkansas.”

According to the release, the UA college has had an enrollment increase of 73 percent since 2007.

“John English has proven himself to be a talented scholar and dedicated leader,” UA provost Sharon Gaber said. “The College of Engineering has made great strides in the past few years, and he is the right person to build upon this success.”

English, who also will hold the Irma F. and Raymond F. Giffels Endowed Chair in Engineering, will replace interim dean Terry Martin. Martin has served as interim dean since July, when Ashok Saxena left to become the senior leader of a new research university in India.

English also holds a doctorate in industrial engineering and management from Oklahoma State University. He was a UA faculty member from 1991 to 2007, and director of the GENESIS Technology Incubator from 1999 to 2001. English also has worked at AT&T Inc. and Texas A&M University.
