Josh Clemence and Joey Nelson have started a Fayetteville-based business consulting firm and creative studio called BLKBOXLabs.

Clemence is the firm’s CEO, and Nelson is the chief creative officer.

The new company’s website, blkboxlabs.com, states the name came from the concept of an airplane’s black box, which records all the events of a flight.

While the company offers “typical agency services” like marketing, graphic design, website development and e-commerce, Clemence said, “we also offer our creativity in working with product and business strategy and positioning.”

“Our value is at its greatest when we are integrated into the DNA of an organization and are able to communicate frequently and often in order to deliver on expectations,” he said.

At 26, Clemence is already a seasoned entrepreneur and mentor to others trying to launch their own businesses. He helped found the Northwest Arkansas Entrepreneurial Alliance, which created the coworking space in downtown Fayetteville called The Iceberg.

Clemence worked for two years at Acumen Brands, most recently as a project manager/brand manager. He was named to the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s Fast 15 list of up-and-comers in 2011.

Nelson worked for 5 ½ years at Rockfish Interactive in several positions, including senior creative director for mobile and emerging platforms. He left in January 2012 to start MobileFWD Inc., a mobile game development company.

He is the owner and designer of a Twitter app called Tidy Tweet, and also does freelance graphic design.

Both men served as mentors for the ARK Challenge, a competition for high-tech business startups held this past fall in Fayetteville.
