Chaffee Crossing and the Sebastian County Parks Commission will co-host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new two-mile section of mountain bike trail that begins in Ben Geren Regional Park and crosses into Chaffee Crossing.

The ribbon cutting, sponsored by the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013, 0.4 miles north of the intersection of Wells Lake Road and Massard Road in Fort Smith.

This new two-mile section is the first mountain biking trail in Chaffee Crossing. Sebastian County and Chaffee Crossing have also partnered to provide paved walking trails connecting the park with the development. Currently, there are more than 12 miles of biking trails within Ben Geren Park. The trails are open to all cycling enthusiasts and can also be used as hiking trails.

Chaffee Crossing Executive Director, Ivy Owen, says this first section will lead to even more biking and hiking trails within Chaffee Crossing in the future. “The challenging terrain that begins in Ben Geren Regional Park and continues into Chaffee Crossing provides the perfect opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to ride very close to home. This is a unique situation and we are fortunate to have such a good working relationship with the county that we can partner to bring amenities like this to the community.”
