Rex Nelson: Speaker Carter And Change In Arkansas

Blogger, politico and Talk Business contributor Rex Nelson has a good read on his web site, Rex Nelson's Southern Fried, regarding changes underway in Arkansas politics.

Nelson, a former aide to GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee, notes that there are two revolutions transforming Arkansas' current political landscape.

In my newspaper column for this week, I noted that the incoming speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives — a 37-year-old banker and attorney from Cabot named Davy Carter — personifies the two revolutions that are forever changing the Arkansas in which I was raised.

The first is a demographic revolution.

The second is a political revolution.

Nelson highlights the shifting population demographics of Arkansas and how this is influencing local and state politics in his essay.

He also has kind words to share about Rep. Davy Carter (R-Cabot), the House Speaker-elect.  And, he offers a portion of recent analysis from Hendrix College's Dr. Jay Barth on the changing political tides in Arkansas.
