JBU hosting 70th annual candlelight service

SILOAM SPRINGS — A long-time Northwest Arkansas Christmas tradition returns with John Brown University hosting the 70th annual candlelight service next weekend, Dec. 6-8.

The traditional event will continue in its home in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the Siloam Springs campus. The service rings in the Christmas season with traditional melodies, Christmas classics and inspirational readings.

This year's services will features selections performed by:
  Cathedral Choir, directed by Paul Smith;
  Chamber Choir, directed by Jake Funk;
  Women's Chorus, directed by Kate Dewey; and
  Chamber Orchestra, directed by Terri Wubbena.

The organ accompanist for the evening will be Jan Helmut Wubbena. A special Carol of Joy performed by the combined ensembles, featuring harpist Joyce Timmons will also be part of the service.

All performances are free and open to the public. Doors will open for general seating at 6:30 p.m., and the service will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and early arrival is encouraged. Organizers ask that guests not bring young children or use flash photography.
