Finalists Named For Farm Bureau Young Farmers And Ranchers
Finalists for the 2012 Arkansas Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award were announced recently at a leadership conference in Little Rock.
They include:
Scott and Cassie Davis of Prairie Grove (Washington County) have 223 head of Holstein dairy cows and heifers, 80 head of beef cows and grow Bermuda hay, wheat and rye silage, and sorghum silage on 650 acres. They have two daughters, Lily, 6, and Ella, 8 months.
Dan and Mikki Hosman of Jonesboro (Craighead County) farm rice, milo and soybeans on 11,000 acres in Craighead County. They also operate a construction company that specializes in custom land leveling as well as building football and baseball fields, commercial and residential projects, and landfills. They have four children: Cade, 13, Rhett, 10, Hudson, 6, and Wyn, 2.
Nicholas and Karen Steele of Sulphur Rock (Independence County) have a diverse ranching/livestock program that includes 175 head of cows and calves, four poultry houses that produce 130,000 chickens each year, custom livestock breeding and poultry litter sales. Their son Harley is three years old.
Arkansas Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award recognizes farmers and ranchers age 18 to 35 for exemplary effort in farming and ranching, leadership and community involvement.
The winning couple will be announced at Arkansas Farm Bureau’s annual convention Nov. 28-30 in Hot Springs. They will receive a Chevrolet Quad-Cab 1500 four-wheel-drive pickup truck. The winners also get an expense-paid trip to the 2013 American Farm Bureau Federation convention in January in Nashville, Tenn.
