Complementing Safdie: the Architecture of Marlon Blackwell

Sunday, September 16, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The cherry plywood ribs that grace the walls and ceilings of the Crystal Bridges Museum Store create undulating surfaces that resemble the fluted underside of a mushroom, known as the lamella. Architect Marlon Blackwell, the Store’s designer, planned its organic shapes to complement Moshe Safdie’s architectural vision of integrating the Museum with the natural landscape. Learn about Blackwell’s artistic process in designing the Museum Store, and view a portfolio of his other architectural works, photographed by world-renowned architecture photographer Timothy Hursley. Afterwards, meet Marlon Blackwell in person at a photograph- and book-signing in the main lobby.

Learn more about Marlon Blackwell at www.marlonblackwell.com. The event is free with online reservations. Seating is limited. http://www.crystalbridges.org/Education/public-programs/Adults/Lectures
