FAYETTEVILLE — Young Caroline Solloway’s rendering for a Keep Fayetteville Beautiful logo was picked from among 45 entrants in a recent contest to determine a signature design for the local beautification effort.

Solloway — who competed in a category for children in kindergarten through sixth grade — used green, yellowish brown and bright blue as the three colors for her design. Her image will be used on brochures, posters and other promotional materials.

Development of a logo is one of the city’s first steps toward gaining nonprofit status for its Keep Fayetteville Beautiful program. The group will be affiliated with Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.

Keep America Beautiful has three primary areas of focus: Litter prevention, beautification and community greening and waste reduction and recycling. The guiding principles of the organization are individual responsibility, education, partnerships and volunteer action. Keep Fayetteville Beautiful’s mission statement is “Helping create pride and responsibility in our community environments.”

Shiloh Bemis was the logo design winner in the seventh- though 12th-grade division, and Brad Williams won the open division, primarily for adults. Top winners in the three categories received $100 gift cards from local businesses.
