Former New York City Mayor and former GOP Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani recently participated in a video taping for the U.S. Marshals Museum, according to a statement released Monday (Aug. 27).

Footage from the taping will be used in the U.S. Marshals Museum video, “Your Marshal – Yesterday’s Legends, Tomorrow’s Heroes,” produced by Jones Video of Little Rock.

In January 2007, the U.S. Marshals Service selected Fort Smith as the site for the national museum. The cost to build the 50,000-square-foot museum — including exhibit work — is estimated as high as $50 million.

In mid-June, Marshals Museum President and CEO Jim Dunn said the campaign has raised just short of $10 million. He said museum construction could begin when $30 million is raised.

“Your Marshal” is used in the Museum’s capital campaigns – local, state, and national. The incorporation of Giuliani will add a national presence to this important project, noted the release from the Museum.

Giuliani has a long history with the U.S. Marshals Service. From the beginning of his career in 1970 when he joined the Office of the U.S. Attorney, through his time as Mayor of New York when he led the city through 9/11, Giuliani worked closely with the men and women of the U.S. Marshals Service.

“They don’t get nearly the credit that they deserve. I just don’t think we could have had this impact on organized crime without the Witness Protection Program and the Marshals Service,” Giuliani said of the service. “They bring all the expertise they’ve developed over the years having handled organized crime cases [and] other cases, to…this new threat of terrorism.”

“We are extremely pleased to have the participation of Mayor Giuliani in this aspect of the project,” Dunn said. “Throughout his career he worked closely with the Marshals Service, including post 9/11. Mayor Giuliani understands the importance of the Marshals Service and the need to recognize their important and historic role in this nation’s history.”
