Daddy-daughter dance has generations sharing lots

FAYETTEVILLE — The Donald W. Reynolds Boys & Girls Club became the “Daddys & Girls” club for a few hours Friday night (June 15) during Northside Rotary’s second annual Father Daughter Dance.

The Rotory Club provided the setting, the music and the snacks. The dads provided their outdated moves and undivided attention. Some girls dressed up; some did not. But it was clearly the man and not the duds that held their attention.

Attendance nearly tripled from last year’s event, said Jody Dilday, former president of the Northside Rotary Club and co-chairman of the event.

“We had around 12 couples last year, so this is definitely a bigger turn out.”

Dads were shy at first about getting up to boogie, but after awhile, some cut loose with the tango, the salsa, the swing and even the two-step. The disc jockey provided by Dancenhance Entertainment played songs ranging from the father’s generation all the way to the daughter’s generation. There were also complimentary snacks and drinks, as well as a photo booth set up for the father and daughter to capture a memory of their special night.
 
Cost was $20 per couple, plus $5 per additional daughter. Additional men — uncles, grandpas — had to pay an extra $10. They taught the girls how to do the “Y.M.C.A.,” and the girls taught their men how to do the “Cupid Shuffle.”  Dilday’s co-chairman was Dr. Merry Moiseichik.

“You don’t even have to be a member to come,” said Dilday. “The members put on the event, but most of the couples here are non-members. I would love them to become members.”

The event, sponsored by Legacy Bank. Proceeds go various children’s charities.The Northside Rotary Club meets at Mermaids restaurant Tuesdays at noon.
