FAYETTEVILLE — At the end of last year’s Fayetteville Roots Festival, co-founders Bryan Hembree and Jerrmy Gawthrop got together and made their “top five” list of “dream scenerios” for the 2012 event.

The pair hit pay dirt recently when John Prine agreed to headline the festival with a show Aug. 26 at the Walton Arts Center. The “co-headliner,” said Hembree, is the David Grisman Jazz Trio, led by legendary

“They’re equally legendary,” he said.

One could tell Hembree wanted to say more when he announced the 2012 Fayetteville Roots Festival lineup at a party at Gawthrop’s Greenhouse Grille last month. The festival runs April 26-28 at several venues around town.

“It just goes to show the growing popularity of the festival,” said Hembree, guitarist for the folk/bluegrass trio Three Penny Acre. “Prine is a catch for a third-year-festival performer.”

Prine is playing just two other festivals this summer: the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado and one in the United Kingdom.
